CONDUiT - Worth: Imaging The River, Eco friendly and Mindful approaches In Photography At Damems Nature Reserve, Keighley

£0.00

We are looking for eight people to join eco photographer Louie Haslam-Chance for a series of 3 FREE workshops for 16-25 year olds taking place in Keighley’s secret nature haven at Damems. Sandwiched improbably between the Worth Valley Railway line and Halifax Road in a hidden valley, the fast flowing river Worth tumbles between industrial ruins through beautiful woods on its way to join the Aire.

Louie will be sharing eco-friendly image-making techniques which he says “is not only a great way to protect our environment, but it also encourages us to be mindful and more involved with the landscape when making images. Working on-site with the materials available to use can help us feel connected to our local surroundings.”

There will be two workshops outside by the river at Damems Nature Reserve and one at Photo Hub North in Keighley. If you are local budding photographer, or just love the river, please apply to come along!

We’ll create some beautiful art and then you’ll have the opportunity to show your work in a joyous group exhibition with work from the children of Worth Valley Primary, and participants in our painting workshops. This will take place at The Civic Centre in Keighley in September.

(please note 16-18 year olds must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or other responsible adult)

Sunday 12th July 11am-1pm at Damems Nature Reserve

Join Louie and Anji at Damems, Anji will give a quick introduction to the area and to the project. Louie will show you how to use a 35mm film camera and give you tips on how to take better photos with your own phone camera. We’ll spend time exploring together and taking photos at Damems to develop in the next session.

Wednesday 15th July 3pm-5.30pm at Photo Hub North

At Photo Hub, Louie will help you to select the best images from your photos from Damems to create cyanotype prints. You’ll learn how to use editing software to create and print digital negatives, and prepare your favourite 3 photos as negatives to process into prints in the next session. Anna from Aire Rivers Trust will join us to talk a bit about the river worth and the Roots In The River Project at Damems.

Saturday 18th 11am-1.30pm Damems Nature Reserve

In the third session, we’ll take the cyanotypes and digital negatives to Damems to expose them to sunlight to make the cyanotype contact prints. we’ll rinse the prints in a water bath with water from the River Worth. If its a cloudy or wet day, we can do this at Photo Hub North and use lamps to expose the cyanotypes. We’ll select photos to display in the exhibition at Keighley Civic centre.

There will be an opportunity to take part in producing and curating the exhibitions in September too for those that would like to be involved.

A few questions…What is your favourite thing to photograph? What do you like about photography? Why do you want to do this mini course?? If you want to, you can let us know in the message box!
